friday 12.5.08

Tonight, would be a good time to do ZM4 for sim. We can try to farm a lantern if you guys want to, but word on the street is that we only need one (thanks hoss). I'm thinking a setup similar to our ENM configuration should work, only surv will have to sub blm for ele seal sleep. The THF is immune to sleep, so melee should zerg it down real fast (only has 4700 hp). Perfect Dodge will probably slow us down, so hopefully the BLM and SMN won't wake up too soon. Everyone's Rancor might cause us some trouble, but if this fight can be Duo'd, I don't see too much to worry about.

I'm also looking to better outline our bst camps, as the last two times we've partied- exp has been terrible. Also, this will probably help me remember where to go.

54-57 (maybe 58): Garlaige Citadel: Bats/Beetles v. Bombs/Pots

57-59 (maybe 60): Quicksand Caves: Lizards v. Anticans

59-61 (maybe 62): Uleguerand Range: Rabbits/Tigers v. Tigers/Snolls/Buffalos

59: Attowha Chasm: Scorpions v. Flies

60-63ish: Boyahda Tree: Fungars/Rabbits/Crabs v. everything. (everything links though, so bring RR)

62-66: Cape Terrigan: Lizards/Rabbits v. Goblins/Cockatrice

62-64: Ifrit's cauldron: Bats/bees/opo opo v. bombs

So yeah. I plan on ditching bst when everyone is 66. Only 12 more levels to go! Hopefully we can get that within another month.

Surv and I will be gone Saturday, but we can ENM/BST on Sunday. Saturday may be a good time to do ZM5 for Sim (I recall it being cake). We can BST/ZM thoughout next week, then hopefully get Sim sky access by next week (then start farming triggers).

Hey Circa/Surv/Sim, logged on so I could leave some ramblings about your BST xp trio:

Citadel: bat/beetle vs bombs is VERY good xp (for bst) solo. Duo is good, but I'd imagine trio would be rather difficult to maintain high xp/hr (if that's your goal). Basement is always crowded it seems and in the bomb room there's only 4 bomb pops, one in each 'corner.' While you can also take pots, they are limited too and their pops are much more spread out. Not to mention the big spell list (-agas, etc.). Bats work well vs skulls, but these bats are somewhat puny vs them. Trio could work well vs them though. Blood Saber just isn't fun! Might be time to use /nin more or some sub with a stun if you try there. I never went behind the gate for bomb xp, so I'm not sure of the pops and available pets.

This is part of the problem I ran into with my duo, is that some zones are just better suited to solo rather than duo, or solo/duo rather than trio.

Sewer beneath Sandy Chateau (can anyone type sewer zone without auto translate) is also VERY good xp... SOLO (level 54/55 to start I think), using slime (hard to charm) vs werebats near ronfaure zone (one way exit, drops off ledge too). EM Slime can solo a VT werebat and still be 45-65% hp. You can start meleeing after first slime hit on bat and will rarely pull hate. If you do pull big hate, just gear down the Rampage a bit. Duo is decent xp, but there's only enough bats for chain 4 I believe. If you duo/trio there, you'll be spending alot of time just playing re-charm tag with the slimes. Use the length of the steps/hallway area for re-charm purposes. It took me 6 tries to re-charm slime one day. Galka ftw...

Quicksand Caves: I've never xp'd there on BST and can only talk of my experiences doing random stuff on PLD/WHM back in the day and my "hey you can open sealed doors solo" treks. Ants are plenty, often pretty close together but liz are somewhat few and far between. I just envision a lot of scampering for pets while avoiding nasty aggro.

Ule Range: I'm not gonna touch that. It's a zone I avoid most of the times. But, like Caves, will be free BST playground, if the wilds don't get you first.

I think one thing you are missing, that I did do is xp in TAU zones. starting around 61/62, xp is very good on the west exit from Nashmau. While this area is perfect for BST lvling, I have noticed that some xp pt's will take up camp at the junction before the graveyard path to level on the murre (birds).

At 61/62, the saplings outside of town will be EM/T (may have to work on conning them down to EM but its worth it in long run) and have 2 spawns right there. Go past the little swamp area and you have another niche where 2 more saplings are.

These saplings are very strong, probably the 2nd strongest pet you've had if you did slime vs werebat in sewer. Murre birds are strong too, but saplings will work them over quite nicely. Need to watch out for sapling AoE special though, they have 2 AoE, one is AoE sleep and other is AoE dmg (spinning sprout?) the only other special is one target dmg, and a pretty good one.

Using the 4 saplings, and no xp pt taking your murre prey, can do chains 3-4 with a little luck. As your level increases, this just gets easier and easier xp. Duo'd here with a random bst and we got chain 5 with very little struggle. But again, there creeps up the caveat of how much xp can a trio wring out of here. Solo is really good consistent xp and zone right there, Duo is all that and a bag of chips...what can you guys do on trio?

Not sure what you guys have been doing pet/food wise on BST lately. I'd recommend bringing zeta food to keep the stronger saplings going. Starting at 51, its very handy to keep light staff (or apollo's if you have gil) in your charm gear. NQ light staff is +10% charm, apollo is 15%. Really notice it on stuff like slimes and higher conning mobs, but will insure EM charm most of time.

'The Tree.' I went there as 60 BST. was pretty rough. I attempted to do spider/funguar vs same. Have to do a lot of legwork 'setting' up the zone and only takes one goober killing randomly to really put you in a bind. 80%+ of my time there I was in scramble mode, trying to outlive, outrun, outlast and hope I came up on the plus side of the xp bar. I imagine trio would be much adept at managing hazards, but 60-61 you won't be able to charm anything but spiders and funguars. You'll also have to work to get stable supply of EMs. My trip there, everything seemed to con T when I needed a pet, then magically turn to EM when I was in position to get xp heheh.

Lastly, Chasm could work for your trio too. Lots of mobs, sprawling area, very little outside influence. I didn't like it solo the time I tried it. While the zone is fairly desolate, the 'old' mob EM vs T just is much more sluggish xp (solo anyway) than what a solo BST can do in TAU.

Any of the old zones (non-TAU) can be good xp, but from my solo work on BST, it just takes a very focused effort and the xp reward is not as high for all the downtime possibilities for me. TAU seems much more geared for solo/duo BST, but if you guys take some risks and really push on BST, I think you can tame some zones as a trio where solo bst is just fighting too much of the odds.
